The Cutlers

Ted and Joan Cutler have been an integral part of the Foundation since they first became involved over four decades ago. When their son Joel was diagnosed, there was little information about the diseases and they tirelessly pushed to learn as much as they could while also helping to improve the lives of other patients. This was done by founding the New England Chapter along with two other families, the Finns and Karases, in partnership with remarkable support by the area’s specialists. Their annual Foundation fall event became a cornerstone of the Boston fundraising landscape.

Each year, they co-chaired the ball, where attendees dined, danced, and donated their generous support of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis research. The result of their efforts was exceptional and brought in more than $20 million over the years. Ted & Joan’s commitment to helping others through fundraising and their passion for the organization is what drives the NE Chapter to this day. The Joan Cutler Lifetime Achievement award was created by the Foundation to honor her unwavering determination. This award is given to individuals who are truly dedicated to making the lives of patients living with IBD dramatically better.
